Sunshine State Summer

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

Summertime in Florida can be brutal. You have to occupy yourself with things that involve AC otherwise the sweltering heat can ruin your summer days. There’s only so much time you can spend at the beach so I’ve been discovering new local spots for brunch and dessert (the two most important meals of the day). With a stop in Palm Beach, night strolls along the beach at sunset, gelato at the Italian market, rooftop pool parties, and even more vacations to look forward to..I’d say it’s been a pretty successful summer.

Tea Time

Oxford Exchange is pure magic. From the second you step into the main doors, you enter a place unlike anywhere else you’ve ever been. There’s brown leather couches and mustard chairs, marble counter tops where baristas whip up fancy drinks, tiny succulents adorning the dining tables, and black & white checkered tile throughout the space. Ever since I stopped in for tea last September, I have been hooked on this amazing spot.

Today, the OE celebrates their one year anniversary and I thought it was only necessary to dedicate a whole post to the most wonderful spot in Tampa!

^^The most delicious homemade potato chips.

^^The shop always has the cutest greeting cards.

^^You can sit under the glass rooftop and enjoy an “outdoor” lunch without the sweltering Florida heat. Props to whoever came up with this brilliant idea!

^^Soft pretzels with Parmesan truffle oil + a honey vinegar dipping sauce. I might have died a little.

^^Rainbows streaming in through the front bookstore windows.

^^The most regal staircase. One of my favorite spots in Oxford.

^^Cappuccino + chocolate pancakes.

^^Even the bathroom has fancy lighting.

Unveiling

I’m proud to have officially moved my blog over from Tumblr to my very own site! After 2 years of blogging on Tumblr, I knew this would be the right move and I’m looking forward to what this space will become. As I mix up the content on this new site, I hope that each of you will still read and enjoy every post just as much as I enjoy sharing my writing + photography in each entry.

I want this to be a virtual scrapbook of the very best things that happen in my life. I also want this to be a place to inspire you. I allow the simplest things in life to spark imagination + creativity and that’s exactly what I want to bring to Life is a Red Carpet.

Home is Where the Heart is

December has been filled with Christmas parties, unpacking the decorations, and unexpected cool weather. In between all of the holiday festivities, I’ve been trying to get out and explore some new places around my town.

Since living in NYC, I have become a huge fan of art museums. The University of South Florida in Tampa houses the Contemporary Art Museum. When I heard they had an Andy Warhol exhibit on display, I knew I had to make a trip to the museum. Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s Soup Can as well as a hundred of his famous Polaroids were hanging amongst the museum’s white walls.

Ever since I heard about the opening of Oxford Exchange on West Kennedy Boulevard in Tampa, I knew I had to try it. My decision was solidified when I heard Food Network chef and “Chopped” judge, Geoffrey Zakarian, had raved about the food after stopping by.

Oxford Exchange completely went above and beyond what I had expected. The restaurant is based on 19th century London and the architecture is absolutely breathtaking. The restaurant’s grand entrance is through a dark, almost romantic, bookstore. Everything from Vogue memoirs to cookbooks to historical classics are on display. While having lunch, we were mesmerized by the glass ceiling, black and white checkered flooring, and marble fountain in the center of the dining room. After an amazing meal and some afternoon tea, I’ve decided to make Oxford Exchange a regular in my routine.

On a gloomy afternoon this week, my friend and I decided to go out and explore Downtown Dunedin. On a typical night, I’m down there to grab dinner or drinks so I figured this could be a nice way to pop into the local spots and really get a glimpse of this cute little town.
